Want To Play .map Mods On A Retail?!

7 posts in this topic

Well you can't. This question is getting asked SO much that it is unbelievable. Well, I'm going to explain why they cannot. After reading this, if you ask "Well can you download them on Bungie.net from someone that haz a h4x1ng jtag or devkit?" Go look at my thread "Why .Map Mods Cannot Go Online".

.MAP MODDING

.Map modding is modding from the ACTUAL map ITSELF. In other words, the map taken off of the disc.

You can mod the .map using Alteration. Anyone can mod a map, anyone can use alteration. But not anyone can play the modded .map. People do NOT use .map modding with programs such as Johnson, Forge, HxD, etc, etc. THESE are used for Usermap Mods. SO if you want to make your golden warthog, auto-matic sniper, clone gun, and even if you want auto-aim or super fast vehicles. I'm afraid you'll need a Jtagged Xbox 360 ;) Or a Development Kit.

WHY CAN'T I PLAY MY .MAP MOD ON MY RETAIL?

Simply because retail Xbox 360's (that are most commonly bought and what about 99% of the Xbox Community has) CANNOT run unsigned code. Why not? Well, because they are meant to be played on Xbox LIVE. Xbox LIVE was intended to be a online service for you and friends to play against millions of gamers. On the other hand, Jtags and Development Kits, were specially designed to run unsigned codes. A JTag breaks off from the Development Kit. A Development Kit is M$'s special Xbox's. It's used to code, test, and create games. Yes, the games you play. It's what Bungie, Infity Ward, Trey Arch, 343i, Ubisoft, Activion, and every other game company has to create the games YOU play. Any way, these Xbox's are meant to bypass the code that is needed to, i guess you could say "check" the game when you start it up. When you mod a game, you MUST unlock or "uncheck" it's default.xex. Which is the xex you use to start the game. Once that's unchecked, you are free to edit the game as you wish. XDK's (Development Kits) and JTags have the ability to still play the game once it's xex is unchecked. Retails are NOT! XDK's and JTags have special programs to find and break down the game you're modding to it's raw files. Retails can't do this. Why? Because, they are not made too. ;)

CAN I GET A DEVKIT OR JTAG!?!?

I suggest getting a JTag. It's the most commonly known modified Xbox 360 that a lot of the Xbox Modding Community has. You can easily get these now anywhere from $100-$400 depending on the board, rrod history, and other things added to and changed to it such as Reballed, Reflowed, X-clamp, Modded case, Modded fans, LEDS, Modded ROL, Exra fans, etc etc.

On the other hand, you can get a Development Kit. They are roughly expensive. NOT always $1000!

But they can be $300-$900. A lot of people get these so they learn how to code, debug, test and mod. But if you're mainly into modding, you definitely need to get a JTag. Development Kits aren't just buying and playing like that. You do have to be careful of a lot of things which I'm not explaining.

CAN I BUY A JTAG OR DEVKIT OFF OF YOU!?!?!

NO! Nothing I have is for sale. I'm not a dealer.

Hope Everyone Understands! B)

I put a notice at the top of the .map modding forums which says that JTAG's or Devkits are required. When you merge your topics then I will put a link to them.
