[Tut] Easier Way Of Finding Tags

4 posts in this topic

I thought I would right you my method of finding tags. I did find this method myself but i know that other people most likely found it out themselves to.

First of you want to load up you halo reach and load the map you want in forge . im going to use Countdown.

when you have loaded the map place down a grenade and go in to Properties>Advanced and change the min count to the same as the max count then stand on the grenades so that you get unlimited.

step1jgn.jpg

now open the same map in Ascension and go down to [matg] - Globals and open the Tag editor

step2d.png

Go to to grenades and change the projectile to something you want to find the Tag for. I chose a .bipd.

step3bu.png

step4d.png

now poke changes and through a grenade on reach and see what you out come is.

outcomem.jpg

now copy that tag and paste it in the search bar. then hit search

step5x.png

now right click and change the tag name

step6x.png

now go into the tag editor for Spartan and find Object properties and copy and paste the tag (without the .hlmt) into the search bar and you have got the .hlmt tag for the spartan.bipd. now just change the tag name

step7s.png

after you have done that just repeat the same steps for the next tag. this help you find every tag. but it helps you find the main ones

you should include that the sddf, foot, and scmb are not to be renamed the same as your initially named tag. however if you then go into the hlmt that you just named, the phmo, mode, coll, and the other two variables you can find in there will be named the same as the parent object and its object properties(hlmt)

and that you can use the tag comparison tool to rename groups with only few tags (weap, vehi, bipd, etc.) small tip: open scnr and swap the tag of a forge object and spawn it. works great when you want to find bloc tags for example. you even can delete the object and the game crashes less than with the grenade method.

nice tutorial btw :)
