General Design Your Own Win7 Start Orb.

Here I made an "animated" light switch to replace the orb.

(its a .gif so quality in this picture is low)

First off backup explorer.exe then download recourse hacker and drag the copied explorer into resource hacker. Depending on your screen resolution and size the orb is located in either 6801-6812 under BITMAP. Here mine uses 6805

So you rick click and save it, and photo shop in your clever ideas. *Paint will not do, use GIMP *

Dont forget explorer.exe is protected and you will need to take ownership via properties→security. Now just replace & confirm. You will get an error and will need to end explorer process, click try again, and restart explorer in task manager. DONE!

i had a really cool icon for mine about a year ago, although i don't know how it disabled so i need to put it back on.

DEAD! I MADE THAT START ORB!!!!! I know it was me cause all it is is a orb cut out from a background i found and over lapped it with the original one and blurring it a litter for the hover and blurring it 10 times more for the pressed one to make it look right.

then by chance did you post a topic somewhere else on how to swap the orb?

You left out the location in the tutorial, it's not very hard to find though
