How to Add Rain to Halo: Reach Maps

Requirements:

Ascension

JTAG, RGH or XDK.

Open Ascension and scroll down to "[scnr] - scenario" and open the scenario tag.

Scroll down to the "Weather" struct. You will notice it has no chunk.

Tip: Scroll up from the bottom if you can't find the Weather struct!

Go to a tag that you either won't be needing for your mod, don't wan't or it just doesn't do anything significant.

Take one of the chunk offsets and copy it into the scenario's Weather struct as well as the chunk count.

For example, on Forge World I used one from the banshee's plasma cannon material effect which was:

Offset: 108077616

Chunk count: 1

(Just use that if you're having trouble however it only works on Forge World)

Click the save button on the right of the struct header.

You will notice that you can now add a tag to the Weather struct.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to click on "Poke" on the right of the struct header if you wish to poke this mod.

Click on the "..." button and scroll down to "[rain] - rain_definition" and select one of the tags. (Some maps have more than one)

Click the "Save Changes" or "Poke Changes" button at the bottom.

This is what it will look like.

There will be rain on the map at first but it wont look very good, (like the picture above) so open the rain defenition tag you used in the Weather struct and mess around with it there.

Here's something I came up with by poking stuff in the rain tag.

Enjoy!

Sorry for the lack of pictures and please correct me if I said anything innacurate. (Chances are I did ) If there's something I explained badly just tell me and i'll re-write that part.

(I havn't tested much on this so I just wrote up what I did)

Edit: Fixed some innacurate stuff.

I can't find the weather struct.

Make sure you have the latest plugin that came with 0.039.

I know it's hard to find because there's a lot of structs, so just look from the bottom up.

I'm using the one from Zedd's plugin folder.

why not get one of the effects from the unused shade turrets. that way you never hit conflicts. cause mancannons are used

What about the man cannons? What?

I'm using the one from Zedd's plugin folder.

Try the other one maybe?

Just keep looking from the bottom up, that's all I can really say.

plasma cannons, mis read. but either way they are used so why not get an effect that isnt so you dont run into conflicts

Oh well for me they're un-used. The banshee snow material effects carried over to rock and metal not just grass and sand, so I gave the banshee ghost material effects, which are basically the same, but I could make the ghost only have snow effects on grass and sand. If that makes any sense.

And I only took the offset off a water splash, not the entire material effect.

You know, they most likely left this in from the days when they were planning to have weather FX as a forge item, just like how we have the light FX. Too bad they never made it that far with it :P I'll try it out tomorrow ^_^ thanks for looking into and finding this :)

I noticed on maps that have rain. Holdout or whatever Firefight map has the Pillar of Autumn, there is not rain inside buildings. There has to be more too it just stopping.

Edit: So it does, it doesn't appear the be handled in the rain tag, however.

It looks like a barrier setting.

I could see it being a barrier setting. Or maybe a zone for cancelling?

Yeah, there is also this problem with the laser sight going through walls too

Or maybe they didn't quite finish the weather sequence, so they decided not to add weather boundaries on the objects.

Now, how would one go about changing the default wind/birds loop to heavy rain OR adding the rain effect onto the map globally.

I've been looking for about an hour but can't seem to find anywhere that references to wind loops.
