Today in Los Angeles, California, Microsoft unveiled their own Windows 8 tablet computer to compete with the iPad and Androd tablets called the "Surface". This tablet has some very interesting features such as two seperate keyboards that act as a case. One of these is the touch keypad pictured here.

The other is called the type keypad pictured here.

This tablet will run Windows 8 RT and come with Office Home and Student RT as well. With a 10.6" ClearType HD display, SD and USB support, VaporMg case, and a choice of 32 or 64 GB, this device is looking to be quite a killer for the market. Pricing is not known yet as well as the amount of RAM or processor type (it is expected to be NVIDIA Tegra3 however). This tablet also has a very nice kickstand that measures only 0.7 mm in depth shown here.

This tablet will release along side Windows 8 in the fall and most likely signals that Microsoft isn't completely confident in their OEM's to product a hit tablet due to the past. The device will be in 5 colors (see extra pictures below). There will also be a Windows 8 Pro version of this tablet that runs on a more standard x64 architechure. Microsoft will be using a Ivy Bridge Intel i5 processor in this higher tech version. This version also has a full 1080p display as well as a pen that can draw directly on the screen. It's impressive the device can differenticate the pen from a finger. This version will be priced around the price of a current ultrabook and is expected to be 3 months later than the RT version. This version also has double the storage (64 or 128 GB). I am definately curious to see more of this device and will probably be a potential buyer if the pricing is right. Some things I still would like to know...
  1. Processor speeds on both versions
  2. Amount of RAM on both versions
  3. Will the devices be able to be connected to a cellular data network for on the go?
  4. Exact Pricing

I really like it, But it may be too complicated to be a iPad killer. People of that nature like the simplicity of the iPad.

Windows 8's metro interface is actually very simple IMO. We'll see though.

Watched the keynote. Mother of god, they thought of everything.

What are you going to do with your series 7?

Keep it. Only buying a Surface if I can comfortably afford it (no were near that atm) and if the specs are as good as my current Slate.

I hope Microsoft keeps the Surface in a decent price range!

I think we can all hope for that.

Same, I hope it's around the same price range as the iPad (because of the lask of MS having to pay the Windows License fee).

The RT version would have to be around the iPad's price if MS wants any chance of competing. The Pro version would probably be a lot more expensive, but that's understandable. It's a full-blown computer.

I really like what they have done here, mainly the keyboard because I find it much easier to type on one than a touch screen but also the metro interface. If they can release this at an affordable price range it could compete with the iPad.
