How to Change Your XShell Background

Noob Friendly (JK… but seriously it is)

Things you will need:

  • Xbox 360 Neighborhood
  • Xbox 360 Dev/Test Kit
  • A Computer with your dev connected (Local Network, hardwired, whatever you prefer)
  • XBDM Recovery.xex
  • A program to open your xlaunch.fdf. ie: Party Buffalo, Xlaunch Editor.

  1. Turn on your dev kit (I’ll be referring to dev kit just to keep it simple) and launch Neighborhood on your computer. We are going to check and see if your flash is visible.

If you don’t see your flash don’t worry we will fix that. If you do see your flash then proceed to step 2.

Now that program I told you that we might need is XBDM(cant post as it is not mine) you can find that quite easily.

I will show you how to use this program or you can follow the instructions that came with it, up to you.

When you download the file locate it and open it, you might have to extract zip file.

In Neighborhood open your retail HD Partition

When you open that go to devkit then games and create a new file. Name it whatever.I made it easy and just named it XBDM.

Place the XBDM Recovery.xex in this folder.

Now Go to Your DevKit and Launch the xex. Select The Create new ini.

When it tells you to reboot, turn off your dev manually and unplug everything it’s connected to. Wait about a minute or so and then plug it back up and when you launch it you’ll have to reset your dev name.

Every time you turn your dev on and off you have to do this but we can fix that. Launch XBDM again and this time select Copy MobileJ settings. Again when it asks you to reboot do the same thing:Turn it off (manually), unplug and wait.

Ok wow that was long but now you should see your flash in Neighborhood.

  1. In Neighborhood open your flash and copy the xlaunch.fdf file. Always make copies of anything you take off your console ALWAYS!

  2. Open the file with an editor like partybuffalo or xlaunch editor. Now go to images and find the files called bg_image_blue.png or bg_image_gray.png. Replace the picture with the corresponding background color to your kit Blue= Devkit Grey= Testkit. Make sure the picture is no bigger than the dimensions of the dev background. (P.S. this is also where you can get pretty creative and edit all of these pics to be whatever you’d like, as long as they don’t exceed size.)

  3. Once your file is saved we can go and replace the file in your flash. Make sure you are NOT in xshell when changing anything that deals with the system.
  4. And once you replace the old with the new go back to xshell and you should have a customized dev background. Example's:

nice tut. I was going to make a tut on this site for it. Just never got around.

Thanks for taking it off me plate hehe

hahahahaha it's the same one I made over on xdkforum, I just changed a couple things(same pics though need to change them).

I wasn't sure if it would be of any use to anyone on here so I just said what the heck.
