Now that many / most people have switched to Windows 7 over XP, how do we deal with compatibility issues?  I attempted to learn HEK once, but compatibility issues with Win7 frustrated me. Iirc, Sapien refused to display graphics correctly.

If that sounds like a one-off weird issue, I could try installing again and seeing how that goes. I'm curious what the general case is though.

Sounds more like a GFX card issue to me does your sys meat the requirements for HEK? You could try running in compatibility mode for xpsp3 but its not necessary. there is no compatibility problums with windows 7 or 8.

I'm currently running HEK under Windows 8 with no problems.

I'm not rely sure what you mean when you say Sapien refused to display graphics correctly.

sapien does not display content like the game does. for instance by default it does not even render bump maps. until you open console~ and type object_display blablabla

HEK came out almost a decade ago so I'm sure my system meets the minimum requirements, but it could be a one-off incompatibility with my Nvidia 8800 GTS. I know Halo was optimized for ATI cards.  Good to know it works well with Windows 7/8 on other systems, though.

I don't remember exactly what my troubles were at the time. I think either the entire video area was solid black, solid white, or Sapien always crashed when I tried to run it.  I know that Sapien has trouble with multiple core processors, so I was setting my affinity to just one core. That might have solved the crashing issue, but the video still wouldn't display at all.

I could give it another go. I should have some new PC parts in a month or so. Same graphics card though, so perhaps I'll still have issues.
