Xbox One

27 posts in this topic

I figured we could start a thread in here instead of just using the chatbox to express our opinions.

Here are some HD pictures of the console in an imgur album

Confirmed information:

Game DVR to record your gameplay, that's pretty awesome if you ask me.

Indie developers cannot self publish their games on Xbox One.

Only Xbox One controllers will work with the Xbox One, not too much of a shocker there.

500GB non-removable internal hard drive.

You will need Kinect to use the console, it should come with it so not a big deal, unless you're going for a devkit or something.

Xbox One controllers will work with the Kinect.

Friends list limit from 100 to 1,000 friends maximum.

You must install games to the HDD, you can play them while they are installing, and each disk has a unique code, so that when you install the games, they cannot be re-installed on a different machine without paying a fee. You can lend your disc games though, just like 360 :)

No backwards compatibility, at all. No XBOX, Xbox 360 or XBLA/DLC/GOD.

That's all I have for now, please feel free to PM me or reply if I left something out, wrong info, etc...

I am pretty sure the always online requirement is up to the choice of game developers. I think only some of the features use it and its not that crucial.

The backwards compatibility sucks, we can all agree on that. But to be fair, using a whole new architecture to deliver great new specs does come at a cost, such as no compatibility with old software.

Now there are a couple of things which are complete bullshit (they are true, I just mean I hate them):

Indie developers cannot self publish their games on Xbox One. Wth?

Plus the whole have to install games to the HDD thing, sucks, but wait! It gets worse! Each disk has a unique code, so that when you install the games, they cannot be re-installed on a different machine without paying a fee, (not sure if fee will be cost of the game or just small), but that means if I want to take a game to a friends house I HAVE TO LUG MY WHOLE FUCKING XBOX WITH ME! Seriously? -___-

Everything else seems ok though :)

This is where a removable HDD would come in use.

Also added the info about the fee.

The pre-announcement ones at least. Each studio gets their own pattern so they can identify leaks.

Oh wow I didn't know that. How do you know this?

I can imagine how risky selling them will be, for the developers and the seller.

The install will be quick, and you can play the game while it installs. Each disk comes with a product key, (Which is what PC games already had). And they can be reinstalled on a different machine without a fee. When you sell you're game, you have to kinda 'confirm' the sale by uninstalling it off your HDD. For you see, you don't need the disk to play the game once it's installed, making piracy as easy as lending the disc to a friend. If you lend it to a friend and the game is still on your harddrive, then they have to pay a fee to play. If you're visiting a friends house, all you have to do is sign into your account, and it will work fine, as the product key is linked your account, and any other account on the same xbox. Even better, when you install it you can install a game to the cloud, so you can have the whole game access-able from any xbox you are signed in on.

Also, here's something that can be added to the info list. "Microsoft also announced today that Xbox One will feature a Game DVR system whereby players can capture and share gameplay moments."

What if I own the game, and want to play it on another xbox that I own, on another account that I also own? I have to pay a fee to play my own game?

Does that mean that when you get profile banned you also lose your games?

I am interested to read the legal documentation that comes with this console, it all seems rather strict. I expect it will end up being a few hundred pages long.  :pinch:

Yeh and what happens if you don't connect it once every 24 hours? I bet your face melts. Yeh that's it.

Also, got some more info, not to do specifically with the XBone its self, but Microsoft have said they will carry on publishing games for the 360 even after the Xblax wun is out.

So that's good I guess.

You wouldn't have to pay a fee as long as the account that registered the game is on the Xbox. In this situation you would recover the original profile onto your new Xbox.

No, as long as the profile is on the Xbox it would work. Being banned shouldn't make a difference.

If they have an xbox one as well, shouldn't you just be able to sign into your profile on that? I thought they said games were linked to the account, not console.

That's exactly how it will work.

And apperently you can trade them in and the used gane seller will give the new buyer a code for the game or someshit like that.

Some new info was cleared up, check it out. http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/05/phil-harrison-xbox-one/

Apparently you can install the game to your Xbox, then give your disc to a friend and you can play together. You friend can play as long as he as the disc, if he wants the digital version he has to buy the game though.

This sounds much better. Even better than what we have now.
