Hi Everyone, I Have A Question For Everyone Here

8 posts in this topic

Greetings,

Have you guys ever thought of contacting 343 to see if they would consider officially release some of your work as free content?  Players would suddenly get excited about Halo again if it was possible for example to play invasion on SnowForgeWorld with Longswords. I would bet 343 would have a sudden uptick in both game population and buzz with little to no cost/time. Rationally, it looks like a win-win. They could even give you better tools to go farther. A mass email/petion/whatever rationally explaining the all of these upisedes might be persusaive.

Valve is famous for this kind "crowdsourcing", its part of what makes them such an amazing company.

In my opinion, if Halo as series dosen't start to evole it will lose out more and more to conceptually daring games i.e. Dayz, Minecraft ect.

They could try this method out with Reach content first.

What do you guys think?

P.S. - You guys are doing amazing work; modded gametypes are the only reason I still play Halo 4. Thx

IMO, its worth a shot. They seem very strapped for time while mods would both fix and add so much.

The things we do here are technially against both the EULA for Halo 4 and the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use. Therefore legally speaking they can't acknowledge or use our stuff -- it would be breaking those policies on their end.

It is not 343 holding anything back, it's Microsoft and the fact that these games run on *their* console.

But if 343 recieved for example snowForgeWorld, altered it even slightly and then released it wouldn't it be "theirs" and hence kosher just like an actual forge map? They could maybe release a tool that you guys could use for retail xboxs - one with the steep learning curve of actual modding so that there isn't suddenly too much content to filter.

 worth asking

Xbox terms of use for developers states users aren't allowed to have any control of scripting as well as many other things in games. each map contains a script which through modding we can edit. so if you remember outside of Microsofts terms of use of modding and claim is jut as a function from the game as in game editing you need to refer to the other rules as mentioned above. That is another reason why we wouldn't be able to do it.

then a third reason why giving out tools wouldnt work is no one would be able to transfer the maps over to their console without a modded way unless they own an XNA license, of which isn't intended for full disc games so that wouldn't work either.

Also remember that every patch that comes out on the xbox 360 averages a minumum of $50,000 to put out. so even if we supplied the content and for whatever reason they did get clearence to publish it to others it would still cost them a large sum of money.

and if we did send our maps they would be faulty and include bugs since nothing we do is proper. 343 would need to do bug testing on each of the maps to ensure anything new worked properly and couldnt break the game. Then after all of that since we cant properly edit the maps they would need to code an entire new program so that the maps could be signed to work on a retail console, else wise no one would be able to play them since the XeX would claim they aren't proper maps (which is the main reason we cant put modded maps on a retail to begin with). So either they code a new signer or break the games existing engine with a new patch (see point above for money) to make their game buggy and allow any maps to load, which would then cause many problems security in the game which wouldnt be allowed.

No matter what even if it were possibly to go through with this it would sitll cost 343 a lot of money to put this out. And for a game that is no longer being cared for, and this also includes halo 4 for the most part since they are going to be focusing on halo 5 or whatever new one there is they aren't going to want to waste time and money on something that isn't needed or essential to the games function.

^That completey answers my question, thx alot!

Hopefully Halo 5 will have much deeper forge/gametype options..not to mention finally having a higher than 16 player cap.
