[Assembly] Community Feature Addition

16 posts in this topic

I'm working on some features I think assembly needs:

  • Map Reloading when you poke (an option, but should speed to shader swapping/scenario placement)
  • Advance Halo Poker, yeah we need this.
  • Toying with the idea of a Xbox 360 File Transfer tool in assembly, as Neighborhood is so ineffective and slow. Should be able to speed it up by a factor or 3.
  • Quick fix button (if the game crashes, press this and it'll just restart the active title)
  • Sending the currently open map into the Map directory of the current game - Gerrit
  • Opening maps directly from the a devkits harddirve.
  • Choosing which tags to inject from inside a tag container
  • When creating a tag container, choosing if you want to extract the raw page, or just the tag data
  • Adding tags/resources to the global zone set. - Elijah

But, I don't want to add these in a way that you guys, who use assembly a hell of a lot more than I do, don't like. So if you guys could post UI concepts (simple ones), or even just basic how you'd like the feature to look that'd be awesome.

Also, I'm toying with the possibility of making assembly not a tab based application, but allow multiple instances of it. And each instance can only have 1 map open. Similar to Visual Studio. Feedback on this would be awesome. (Note for me, if you do this, use this).

Make the sidebar setup more useful. Right now we just got the xbdm one that can't really be controlled too well.

Maybe a toolbar could be added for a lot of those poking features, with a TU combobox much like VS's build mode, whose contents change depending on the current map, with settings to choose a "default" TU for each game.

Hell, just start ripping the VS layout to a degree.

You should add that TJ is working on network poking. I'm a fan of all the features you listed, except removal of the tabs. You should keep the tabs, but make each tab it's own instance. As Zedd pointed out, the sidebar needs some serious work. Perhaps when a map is loaded the tags could be loaded into the sidebar? I feel it'd streamline the application and make it more like the UI in Visual Studio. It'd be even more awesome since you can float the sidebar. It'd be great for people with multiple monitors.

my l33t photoshop. Everything looks close together because I did this using one of my other (crappy resolution) monitors.

I would like to see a better halo3.campaign editor, so we can add a mapID to the list easily. And maybe down the line I'd like to see a feature to compile blam. Lastly I would like to see more colors, or maybe have a way to load external themes.

My grey orange theme.

Let's definitely do this.  It will make network poking 100x easier for me to handle.

Alex, don't forget profiled hotkeys.

have custom hotkeys that you can set on a basis for which game version that active map is.

and by having these you could make it so you could set some generic tools like restarting the active title and taking a screenshot. and other functions that are game set such as reloading the textures, pancam, and etc.

  • Opening maps directly from the a devkits harddirve.

You can do that if you use samba. It isn't too fast but it works. You can inject tags and whatnot. Akarias told me about it.

How about the ability to store multiple xbox names/IPs for easy switching via a toolbar item or something?

A tagblock editor would also be nice, and I think the best approach would be an extra button that loads the contents up in a dialog so you are free to add/delete/copy, and then you can hit a finish button which injects your changes.
