I'm looking into starting Halo modding, and I have a question.

At the moment, the only thing you can do is create your own modded gametypes and play them in custom game lobbies. You can find many good examples in our Gametype Database.

In case you were planning on using mods in matchmaking, I have to inform you, that this community doesn't support cheating and you wont find any tutorials on this subject.

Cheating isn't what I intended, and modded game types seems like it would be a fun project for me and my friends, so thank you.

I assume you have already learned what KSoft is, but if you don't then open the spoiler, otherwise... Click the link I have provided for a crash course on triggers, the main aspect of gametypes you will be looking at to make or modify gametypes.

http://www.xboxchaos.com/files/file/137-ksofttool-repack/

Basically once you download all the programs and patches, install the patches, then extract KSoft, in that order.

KSoft is a tool that you use to encode and decode gametypes.

To decode a gametype and edit it, you must extract a gametype from a flash drive using "Horizon". Then Drag the file you extracted to H4 Container Decode, and watch the magic happen. You will now have an edit-able xml file that you can open using any program you want (I use Notepad++). When done editing the gametype, drag the xml file to H4 Encode to turn it into a variant file, which you then open an existing gametype in Horizon, press the gear, then contents, and replace that variant file with the file that was made when you encoded the xml. Now the gametype that you just replaced it's variant file has all the code in it from what you edited :D

That's how you use KSoft to mod gametypes

I would download the file and look at it yourself for a while, maybe use it for reference.

For gametypes for halo 4:

You will need:

XML editor/saver

Horizon/Modio - I use Horizon and yes it has an editor, but ksoft helps make it even more cool game-types.

Ksoft.tool that abandon linked you.

Also, a way to learn quicker like I did was opening my command prompt & entering in the code so it don't just create a file or don't, but gives out an error if there is one and so you can post any problems you may have easier.

I'd link you to the places to get those but I don't have time.

Like what cosmic said about manually entering in the encodes, KSoft 1.4 does that automatically so if you are doing something wrong in the gametype, don't worry KSoft will tell you when you try to compile it.

You can edit the .bat file and add a new line at the end that simply says "pause". This will stop the command prompt from automatically closing after it attempts to compile.

True, but mine hates the pause command, it pauses, but I have to put in the code a second time for it to work, don't matter though, I've stopped modding halo 4 & went to minecraft ;)

I think almost everyone has stopped modding Halo 4 at this point. I've gotten bored with it as well.

It was fun while it lasted though, but grew bored & tired of trying to do things you just could not do. Oh well. Kinda not looking for anymore halo's period in truth, played to much. So bye all halo fans. I might come to 4 every once in awhile if something perks my interest.
