Adding .map's without replacing original default ones?

11 posts in this topic

Hey I was wondering if there was anyway to add a modded .map to Halo 3 without changing the original default map? I know this can be done, can anyone point me in the right direction so I can go about doing this?

Cheers.

Just make a copy of the .map and .mapinfo. Change the Map ID of the .map (which can be found near the top of the SCNR tag) to something unique from the rest of the .map files. Open up the .mapinfo and make the Map ID the same as what you put in your .map.

If you are looking to add campaign missions, that requires an additional step, adding the Map ID to the .campaign file. Let me know if you need a more in-depth tutorial on that part.

I already saw this tutorial, Im using Assembly.

That's the best tutorial around on shader changing. All Ascension tutorials will work with Assembly, you'll just have to adapt them slightly.

The only difference I could find for using Assembly now vs. Ascension when that was written is "Shader Extensions" is now called "Arguments". That's the tutorial I learned how to modify shaders from. What are you having trouble with?

Interesting. I figured out how to do this by just tinkering and guessing that could work. However, I didn't enter my custom MAP ID in the .map file. I just changed the MAP ID in the .mapinfo file but it still shows up as a separate map in the game.
