"Combining the traditional arena-style gameplay from older titles, with some new elements available in Halo 4,
this is where the best of both worlds come together."

A New Competitive Style

In Hybrid, players start off with basic weapons & equipment, similar to traditional arena shooters. Each ability grants the player a unique Armour Mod (perk) when equipped, and there's also an element of VIP included, commonly referred to as "Bro traits", to provide an interesting way to play. When bro traits are enabled, players can share armour mods with teammates at any time, within a set range.

You can even apply your own trait sets to certain AAs in the gametype options player trait menu, for further experimentation.

There are some visual aids present in Hybrid, which help identify what ability, mod or traits a player has... both to the individuals, as well as their opponent(s)/teammate(s).

This helps players predict the outcome of a fight much sooner than it happens, and provides an opportunity to form a strategy.

Equipment Mods/Traits:

Players gain certain mods or traits when an ability is equipped.

Customize Equipment Mods/Traits:

Not satisfied with the preset ability mods? Simply enable Custom Mods, and you are now ready to play on maps with your own equipment mod configuration.

  • Custom Mods Chart:

NOTE: Power Ability/Custom Traits can be modified in gametype settings (motion tracker is disabled by default). These traits will set the recharge rate of abilities at 0%, giving players only one energy charge, but energy use rate is set at 20%. Also, turning speed is reduced by 50% while using Jetpack. These setting are forced, and cannot be overridden by Base or Tournament Traits.

Armor Ability Visual Aids/Secondary Armor Colors:

Bro Traits:

When enabled, Armour Mods on abilities can be shared with other team members. Increase or decrease the bro traits range
to your preferred distance... from 10 meters, right up to 150 meters! (excludes power ability/custom traits)

Base Player Trait Swapping:

Want to quickly swap between different base trait settings? Now it can be done easily from one single gametype toggle option.

Standard Mode

  • Normal Base Player Traits apply.

Tournament Mode

Default settings are as follows...

  • Shield Recharge Rate at 90%, Shield Recharge Wait at 5 seconds, Fall Damage at 0%
  • Equipment Recharge Rate at 20%, Flinch disabled, Loadout S/U Mods disabled
  • Movement Speed at 125%, Gravity at 110%, Jump Height at 115%, Sprint disabled
  • Motion Tracker Range at 25 meters

(these can be changed, with exception to equipment recharge rate, flinch, and sprint, which are permanent)

Armour Mod Icon/Trait Alerts in Killfeed, and HUD Widgets:

When an ability is picked up, a message will display in the killfeed telling the player what armour mod or traits they have acquired.
(Sounds like a simple enough feature, but I honestly had a lot of trouble getting this to work).
HUD Widgets (located at the bottom center of the screen) also display. One to notify the abilities owner that a mod or traits is/are currently active, and one to notify teammates (within a Bro Traits boundary) that a mod is being shared.

CAUTION: When the "MOD LINK" widget is displayed on players carrying an ability, it is important to be aware of teammates within bro trait range, and their secondary colour indicating which equipment they are carrying, to identify what mods are being shared. If they are carrying the same equipment as you, then no benefits are gained.

Armour Abilities delete when swapped:
An equipped ability will be consumed when exchanged for a different one.

Players drop abilities when killed (Optional):
If enabled, players will drop the ability they have equipped when killed by an enemy, and can be picked up again by anyone.
Abilities will delete off the map after 3 minutes when dropped.
(excludes Promethean Vision, Jetpack, & Active Camo)

If you'd like Cosmic, I can whip up a FFA variant for you... because I know how you love your FFA.

On that note, I might include some objective variants, & I have a BTB Hybrid already planned. There will also be more upcoming projects from me, with features much like what you see here, in the not-so-distant future.

I really like the concept of modifying the secondary color of the person based on their ability.  I will have to try this out later this week as well.

Is there a way to enable a widget to let the player know that they are aquiring someone else's bro traits when they are in range?

Should be doable. I will see about adding it in the next version.

lol, K. I guess I'll have to get on halo one last time before I sell it to play this, it sounds fun as H*ll with FFA. Any Chance you could do Hybrid Ninja Assassins Next. 343i did a great job on the game-type, I just need to find a good remake of Ivory Tower/Reflection & 3 more players.

I'll do a last chance halo gameplay day next month with 2 prizes involved.

Irony is I really did not leave halo as I'm building a halo map on MC360 with the Mash-Up Pack. ;)

Any Chance you could do Hybrid Ninja Assassins Next...

Hmmm... maybe. I will have to see if using my Hybrid features in a gametype similar to Ninja Assassins will be viable.

Incredible. I can tell you worked hard on this.

Indeed. It has gone through at least 5-10 iterations, and many hours were spent trying to get certain features working correctly, as well as refinement/polishing to create the best possible experience. The very first version I planned was actually going to have weapon armor mods together with the abilities, but I soon realized that what I wanted (at the time) was going beyond the limits of what could be done in gametype modding, so I had to start changing things and simplify it a lot...

eventually, here's what I ended up with, and I'm quite pleased with it.

I owe Gordon my gratitude for spending time helping me with this project. He wrote the original code for the ability mods/traits, mod sharing (bro traits), deleting abilities when a player is killed... I provided him with some assistance in that department, modified some of his code to get the end result I was looking for, and even tried writing my own code for other features as well, after I did some research in gametype modding myself (and after AbandonedCashew refused to do it for me when I approached him in need of help XD),

but he has put a great deal of effort into this as well, so he deserves just as much credit... perhaps more than myself, dare I say.
