Modding
Editing Campaign file?

19 posts in this topic

Okay,

So i downloaded Gamecheat13's campaign map, and its really bugging me, because i have no idea how to install it.

I know how to install modded maps, don't get me wrong, but how do i edit the campaign file to add the MapID?

Any help is appreciated

You have to get a .mapinfo, then go to your patched .map and go to the scnr tag, then at the top there should be something called "Map ID". Change that number something unique. Then open up the .mapinfo and make the ID you put in for the "MapID"  the same for the .mapinfo

I'm confused. Would you be able to help me?

The link to the map is: http://www.blamdepot.com/

Just click on "Halo 3" and navigate your way to maps/modified/campaign.

Can you walk me through on installing it?

Thank you very much :D

Figured it out!

For anyone else who wants to know how to do this, read on:

1. Copy your .campaign file from your JTAG (Located in "Halo 3/Maps/info")

2. Download this version of Assembly: https://www.mediafire.com/?5q09bem3357vf5x (Zedd, if you want this removed, Just PM me and I'll take it down)

3. Open it, and go to File->Open Campaign file

4. Copy the mapID of the map you want to add (Open that map's .mapinfo file)

5. Paste it into your campaign file, and save. (It wouldn't work for me if i just pasted it into an empty space, so i replaced the mapID of the map that this one was made from.)

6. Put back on JTAG (Replace the original file with this one)

7. Enjoy! (You may need to clear cache for this to work!)

*Thanks to Zedd and JJIJR for helping me

The file looks fine to me at least. There's no xdevkit.dll and I scanned it so it's all good on my side.

Cheers. All i did was compile it in VS and upload it. No viruses' or anything nasty inside :D

it would work if you put it into a blank spot however you need to remember campaign maps only show up when you have unlocked them on your account, with the first map being unlocked by default. so after adding it into a blank spot you would need to edit your profile so it said that new map was unlocked so you could see it or edit something in the xex so all maps come unlocked by default

Ah...., so by playing the last mission in the game (halo), it would play the end credits and then unlock the *new* last mission?

If you edit the credits mapinfo to be visible you could just select credits from the menu.

And my PPFs in the downloads section automatically unlocks campaign if you want it to be even easier.

Thanks for all the work you guys have done on this mod.   I been trying to set this up for my kid over the last couple of weeks.   yeah ikr.   On and off here and there but have spent at least two or three full days banging my head against a brick wall as Im sure many others have also been doing.  I know its probably very easy once you know how but for people like myself it is anything but.  There are no full tutorials on how to do this anywhere and there are just little bits and pieces of info here and there.   Trust me as someone who has only ever modded GTA V and never even played Halo, let alone modded it, this is a total nightmare to do.

Is easy enough if, like you guys you've been modding it for years but for myself everything is very difficult.   For example, I have the modded xex, put in the right place, I have all the other map info and bf files etc in the right place.  I have an RGH, obviously, and am trying to do the ai test map for campaign to start with.    As its a brand new account I don't have any of the additional maps unlocked.   (I've used assembly to copy and paste the map ID into the 12th slot)  Ive no idea which map this was made from and it won't let me overwrite any of the other maps with this map ID.    In this thread you're saying to edit the profile to unlock the maps and edit the credits.mapinfo to unlock them, not been able to figure out how to do this.   My head hurts.   Id imagine a few other first time modders to Halo have hit a similar brick wall with all this.   Just thought would share my thoughts on it all.    Would be amazing if someone could make a step by step tutorial on how the hell to install this mod, all in the one place...    Ill continue till I figure it out, coz thats how I roll, but it really shouldn't be this bloody hard to spawn some NPCs.    Like I say though, thanks for all the work you guys put into this.   My kid will be overjoyed if I ever figure it out / someone makes a tutorial.   I may even make a tutorial myself if I ever figure it out.

Thanks Lehvak.  Hopefully Ill find out from all that how to get this bloody mod installed so I never have to look at Halo again as long as I live.   Id actually looked at that page when I first started trying to do this mod.   Id been trying to mod my own xex, but kept getting errors at the dll part.  Eventually had to get on with life for a few days and went back to it again but got myself a pre-modded xex.   Then encountered another brick wall when had to edit the credits which I have no idea how to do.   The bit Im interested in this link would be section 10 applying the patch but the patch I downloaded isn't in the format the patcher wants.  Gonna go to bed before I fling my laptop out of a window, shortly followed by myself.   This mod has been absolute torture to instal.  Never played Halo before, never intend to once got the mod installed for my kid.   Assuming I ever figure it out.  Cant wait to get back to GTA V.   8-)

Guys do I even have to patch the maps in assembly to get this working?  (this is post 10 in the link that Lehvak posted.)  I was under the impression once I got the modded TU3 AI  xex and put the maps in the correct place I was good to go (?)   Ive done all the other 9 steps fine.  The only problem Im having is figuring out out to edit the credits.mapinfo file to show the 12th map in the campaign one I tried, (trying to install 120_ai_test map on that one), and on the multiplayer one I want to install the mp_ai_playground map, but not sure what the ai executable is, and what does it mean AI won't work in network games?  Im guessing it means I / my son, can't spawn AI in games with other players.    All he wants to do is play by himself, spawn AI in whatever map to have a battle with.
What would be the best map to make this happen?   Im thinking my best option is campaign since he's happy to play alone but can't find out how to edit this credit.mapinfo file.   Im getting the maps from (link removed).   I have my RGH online so I guess I need the TU3 files as Im pretty sure it downloaded an update.  Really gotta get this working as its driving me insane, and I can't give up on it.   Many thanks in advance if anyone is able to help an old (er) dude out with this.

The link to blam depot is considered warez, please remove.

But the maps on his ftp are pre patched, I was under the impression you were just downloaded a patch of them.

The link I sent you (the getting started one) has the information on how to patch the xex's, all of zedds patches are up-to-date so they already has been modified to have AI work.

Open the .campaign file located in the maps>info in the game folder, open it in Assembly. Once done open the 120_ai_test.map and go to scnr copy down the map id and go to the .campaign and add it. Save.

You can't play AI maps in mp over lan, cause the mp netcode does not account for AI, cause they never intended to have AI in mp, it's only in the campaign netcode. AI will show up over lan, but it wont be syned; but that is Lan. For what you are doing you I'm guessing you are just gonna split screen, that will be fine.

thanks very much for getting back to me again Lehvak.   Removed the link, sorry about that.

If the maps are pre- patched isn't that all I have to do?   The link you sent about how to patch the xex's Im guessing I don't have to do since I already have a modded ai xex and using pre-patched maps already.  (?)

Ive opened the campaign file in assembly copied the map ID and saved it a few days ago, but it doesn't show up in the map list because its a new account, the game hasn't been played on the account yet so I haven't unlocked the 12th map and the 120_ai_test map doesn't show up.  Guessing this is how it works, I have never played any halo games before.

Im guessing when trying to play the AI playground I go to forge, then select maps, and the 120_test map should show up in this list.  (?)

Ive no intention of playing it over LAN anyway and it will likely not even play it with spilt screen.   My kid just wants to play it by himself and fight with the AI he spawns.   I may play with him from time to time in split screen since have spent a long time trying to get it working.  lol

I think my only problem is figuring out how to edit the credits mapinfo to be visible so I can select credits from the menu as Lord Zedd said in post number 10.
Im sure I have everything done correctly I just can't see the map when Im in the game.

I don't believe the credit.mapinfo is in Halo 3; I'm not at my xbox to confirm.

If maps are pre-patched all you'll have to do is drop the files in the according folders in you Halo 3 game folder.

Yes, the 120_test.map is not showing up cause you have not played the rest of the campaign maps. But this can be fixed with zedds recent xex's, which unlock all the campaign maps.

the ai playground should show up in the custom/forge map menu list, while the 120_test map will show up in the campaign list (but you'll need a xex to unlock the retail campaign maps)
