Halo 3/ODST BLF Helper PSD

5 posts in this topic

Edit: The BLF limit was reduced recently so you may run into issues if you don't save as compressed PNG.

Edit: As of July 29th, Assembly's Master branch has the BLF changes from the Zedding branch, so the link below is no longer needed. Be sure to update!

So you're making your map, almost done, but then when it's time to do the BLFs you get annoyed having to make the film, clip, and variant images.

I figured there was a better way, and there was. So I made a PSD with all 3 masks ready to go. All you need is your image and a little understanding of Photoshop and you'll be able to make something like this very easily:

0HHrJAB.png

First you'll need to download the PSD in the first place: http://www.mediafire.com/download/f2s4kndedoykb9z/h3blf.psd

How to use:

TpHiPnV.png

  1. Delete "Layer 2" as you will be adding your own image.
  2. Paste your screenshot into a new layer, then move it between the "Variant Gradient Vector" layer and the "Masks" group. (Where "Layer 2" was, see above) This should automatically add it to the clipping mask.
  3. Transform your screenshot as necessary, being sure to keep the focus within the center guide box as well as keeping the image edges outside the overall document. The center guide is based off of the film mask, and I recommend positioning with the variant mask to make sure everything works.
  4. Once positioned toggle the visibility of each mask (and the gradient layer if variant) and save as PNG with smallest compression.

Notes:

  • The variant image is normally smaller but the same ratio so I resized it.
  • If you are having troubles with the images loading ingame you may need to update your XEX: http://www.xboxchaos.com/files/file/113-halo-3-ultimate-xex-ppf-patches/ as recently I bumped up the BLF size limit.
  • This PSD can be scaled without hurting anything, just be sure to do it before you add your image and you'll probably need the above XEX. Don't change the ratio.

This post (and 404's response) were posted before Cabin Fever was released.
