Open Letter About Modding Online

To do anything else would be an abuse of my power as an admin, so allow me to be egotistical while I get some things off my chest in the form of an angry letter.

Hi, I'm Lord Zedd, you remember me from such places like "the revision field of all your assembly plugins", or "the main reason why you are able to inject tags right now", and who could forget "you'd still be forceloading beta maps too" among other timeless classics. Recently I've come across people reposting and rehosting my work on other sites. "Well what's so wrong with that Mr. Zedd?" you may wonder, well you didn't let me finish; it was getting posted to the support site of an XBL bypass service.

To see this happen is a kick in the balls. No matter how much you may think you are "helping" by sharing, you aren't. This didn't start with this recent development either, mind you, I've been seeing people with accounts here going over to Se7ensins and answering questions in the "why won't my autoaim poke" threads for a while now only to come back here to ask their own questions. I find it disrespectful to do something like that and I certainly hope you don't expect any respect from me in return.

I don't support modding online and I believe I've made that obvious throughout my posts on here and other sites. I don't do what I do so it can be bastardized by children taking it online. I don't do what I do for people to copy and paste (or rehost xexs) my own or others' work to sites that don't care about Halo modding if it doesn't involve matchmaking. And I certainly don't do what I do so some douche can grab my xuid and use an autoaim xex with it making me look like some faggot (this apparently actually happened).

If you fit any of the above descriptions you can fuck right off. If you aren't going to respect the work of myself or anyone else that contributes (besides things crossposted to XBL sites) then you have no business being here or even opening Assembly. As I mentioned in the opening line if I had it my way you'd be banned from Chaos right now.

This has been gnawing at me for a while now and I feel a bit better now that it has been put it into words.

Drop that ban hammer. I realize you're not trying to abuse power, but this is exactly what administrative power is for.

The problem is rooted in the face that we have no grounds to ban anyone for activities that they do in other places.  If we did it would *sort of* be like a place employment firing you because your boss doesn't like the food you cook at home (bad example probably).  The best anyone can do is make your opinion heard and refuse to help people who engage in activities you don't believe are good.

I ran my Jtag online for around 18 hours one time. I got what I deserved though, my main account and my retail console got banned. Even before that I felt like a dick for doing any of it. Modding should be kept offline all of the time. I actually came to this site due to it having the offline only rule.

Well said zedd. I agree with you 100% and I'd you had the ability to ban them I would be all for it. It's a shame we have a community that steals, sells, and claims othe people's work. Unfortunately this has not recently been going on. It's goes back to as far as I can remember. It's sad to hear and see these things but it's what we have to live with. This is exactly why I left the xbox scene. Pc and Playstation scene is bad as well but no where compaired to xbox. I remember when everything was shared in the process of exploitation to further the progress of what we have today. But somewhere that changed to greed fame.

I do want to add something now that I've had some sleep:

I'd really prefer that nobody tries to fight for me when these sorts of issues come up; I can handle things myself.
