How do servers work in Halo games? Specifically Beta?

9 posts in this topic

I'm wondering does it call for a certain file system on a network address with has all the relevant playlist info and what not?

Would there be a way of directing a game (Halo 3 beta for example) to a server you host with all the necessary files?

I still need to learn alot about game modifying or how Xbox games run in general.

Thanks.

If you want to see an example of the files, the Reach Demo stores them locally via the \storage folder.

I hadn't really put any thought into game specific modding servers.

alot of possibilities...but I'm sure you would have to patch the game .xex that checks whether or not xAuth is signed in, XBL resolves, etc.

So technically speaking, is it plausable to redirect any outgoing traffic to go to a homemade server rather than LIVE?

If so, this could be seriously handy and beneficial, having a dedicated server to play on with JTAG's, fucking beast!

It's plausible, but will most likely never happen due to how difficult it would be for us to do.

Also worth mentioning, Microsoft and co have major issues with server emulations.  They tend to come raid your house.

It would be cool to play Halo 3 Beta (Delta) online again.

Yeah. I didn't have an Xbox at that time, but I wish i did.

I love looking through all of Bungie's ViDoc's to see how they made the Halo games, and looking at all the pre-alpha footage.

The coolest thing that was cut from Halo 3 would have to be the gore, this game was going to be freaking violent as hell. Brutes would be able to rib arm's and legs off, and elite's could cut their enemies ligaments off with their energy swords. Looked kick-ass!
