Halo: CE
making senerio into .map :/ ?

19 posts in this topic

I've been getting into halo ce modding using hek plus sapien and guerrilla. As difficult as it was for me just to screw around with the test scenario lol I've managed to add some vehicles and i know how to add tags so far which is great i got big plans for some maps. Problem is how the heck do i convert a scenario into .map file i can play on. I've tried researching it but can never find the right way.

If any one is willing to team view me and show me the ropes i would really appreciate it.

You don't convert a scenario into a .map file, you compile it.

Use tool's command line within the original HEK to compile it into a .map file.

Grab Tool++ for a visual method of compiling.

Look in the same folder as sapien, there should be a file called debug.txt.

Paste the latest contents of it here.

Edit: Also, if you are on windows 7 or above some files may be hidden if they were created by sapien, click the "compatibility files" button in windows explorer to reveal them. Make sure to copy the hidden files out of the folder and paste them back in.

(This drove me round the bends a few years back, never being able to find anything I'd made in anything HEK related)

Now my sapien won't run I've tried every tut I saw on YouTube to fix if I can't get it to run :/

I'm guessing you are using win 7 - So right click the programs that won't run and go to properties -> Compatibility tab click "Run This Program in compatibility mode" and click one from the drop down list (make sure you test all the options, cause I forget which one works) apply and see what happens, like I said test all options.

If you cannot even compile a map, then don't even bother trying to make a map. Read the documentation gearbox provided. We are not here to hold your hand.

Look at your debug.txt, that'll tell you what is going on, sapien is very temperamental; eg, a tag is removed that was used in the scenario. It'll just crash with no explanation.

yea its weird i extract a scenario from a .map i edit it and it lets me do that fine but when i leave program and try to edit it again it just auto closes i don't delete any scenery i add vehicles weapons etc. the annoying thing is i have to use windows compatibility task trouble shooter to get it to run :/ I've tried just about every thing debug text said map was good too

I'm confused as to what your saying here. The title says you want to know how to build a cache file, then you say sapien wont work, then you say you extracted the scenario from a .map. Did you only extract the scenario? If yes then you have to extract ALL the .maps tags. Check your debug.txt and if it says unable to load tag then remove that tag in guerilla. Thats how I always fix my broken scenarios.
