Converted MP points will expire, wtf?

Logged back on to xbox today and saw this message from xbox live:

 

 

Like really bro? why is this even a thing? And wtf am I supposed to buy with 19$. Makes me wish I bought a ps4....

Looks to me like Xbox live reward cash and not money you bought via a currency card. All Promotional points expire, it used to be within a 30day radius, looks like they up'd it a few months, or well here read this,  http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_forums/xbox_rewards_support/f/29/t/1365448.aspx

 

It also seems like if you have had money on your acc for more than 6months unused-1yr you will get hit with a expiration date.

Its just dumb, it won't combine with paypal for buy games...
