Enable Melee In Swapped Biped?

22 posts in this topic

I've swapped the default biped with a Hunter, but the melee does not function. When I press 'B', my character just twitches. What have I forgotten to edit?

If you are in 1st person you will only see a a twitch, but if you try to damage anything you'll see it is actually meleeing.

Gamecheat13 once told me that you need to make the biped in 3rd person view in order to melee properly.

However, he was refering to the Brute Chieftain with Hammer. I'm not sure if it will work with the Hunter, but give it a try.

I am in 3rd person, it still will not work. Just twitches

Are you in proper third person (the same method for making vehicles first person)?

Did you change the bipd in globals or just change the hlmt?

I changed the third person unit to the Hunter biped, and then changed the starting weapon to the Hunter Particle Canon. Then, I checked the Third Person box in the Hunter Particle Canon. Is this right?

What tag does "the third person unit" refer to?

are you talking about it in player representations in [matg]?

How does it look when you have that checked?

Does it look proper?

I recommend doing it proper by making a second mode tag

This is what I currently have. As I said, it goes into third person(when I'm holding the particle canon), and fires fine. it's just the melee is not working

Check the weapon type value in the weap tag and see if there is a corresponding type in the jmad modes block. I would leave the weap tag as is and change the modes entry to "any"

The weapon type value is set to "undefined". Not sure what you mean by the other stuff, though.

Set the weapon type value to rifle. Go to the hunter's jmad ta and look for the modes block. Under combat there should be a string id that says weapon type, set that to any, make sure that the combat-any block in modes contains the melee animation.

There is no "rifle" type in the weapon type value box. And the weapon type(the string) is already set to any. Nothing is working

sorry, my mistake, you need to set the weapon class string to rifle and then makes sure the melee animation in the [JMAD] "modes" block (Under "Combat") is under the string ID "any".

Is it injected? The sorting is probably messed up.

Not sure what you mean by injected. All I did was load the 020_Base map in Assembly(I'm doing this on Crow's Nest), go on Halo 3, change the Third Person Unit in globals.matg to the Hunter's biped, then I set the level's primary starting weapon in scnr as the hunter canon with 100/100 ammo, then went to the hunter canon's properties or whatever and checked the third person flag so when I spawn with the weapon it will enable third person. Finally, I made it load the Hunter's char in the Designer Zonesets because it isn't loaded until later in the level. Then poked the changes, and I can't melee.

EDIT: If you meant injected as did I extract and inject the Hunter, no.

Most of us have posted the ideas about why this won't work. Please do not bump for answers.

Try to do this with a clean .map and follow the posts above word by word.

Okay, I've set the weapon class string of the particle canon to rifle, but I'm confused about what you mean in regards to a melee animation in the JMAD modes block under combat. I cannot find the hunter's particle canon under the JMAD section, nor can I find a combat block for any other weapon?

Okay, I've noticed that if I go into the hunter particle canon's .weap and make the 'First Person Animations' tag set to the hunter's animation set, it will show the animations but they won't do any damage.

This is not perfect in Halo 3, and it is possibly hard coded in the [char].

It won't do any damage at all as it is not intended to work for a player.

Try doing this in Halo Reach, it works a lot better now that the Hunter's melee attack now acts as a vehicle splatter.
