[PC] Reach: Getting Started

32 posts in this topic

Used to mod halo 1 CE, and Halo 2 . Not inexperienced by any means .

Yet somehow everytime I try to build assembly it says I'm missing this or that. Or it has errors related too assemblyiconlibrary.dll

Yes, I retargeted and had it build the release version of x64

Yes I had xdevkit references corrected

so if someone could please upload a built solution that actually WORKS for Halo Reach mcc PC here I would appreciate it.

EDIT IMPORTANT

I have successfully built a functioning version of assembly for mcc halo reach pc. I will be proving a link somehow here shortly today

I put together a cinematic reshade but there are a lot of textures in Reach that are super low resolution (512x512) etc that I'm looking to upscale via ISR. I've complied Assembly and started digging through the map files but can't tell if the dds textures are stored within the .map files and can be extracted/replaced via Assembly or are they in the giant MCC-WindowsNoEditor.pak file?

Assembly does not have support for content manipulation like that yet. Everything game related is stored in the map files.

The MCC-WindowsNoEditor.pak is for the unreal engine menu system and has nothing to do with actual blam content.

If you don't fancy waiting around you can do it manually. Of course you will need to use your initiative due to the various changes in MCCReach.

I'd advise just waiting unless you want to learn more about the inner workings of the raw resource system.

I had found that page but relied on adjutant and couldn't find a place for the src code for possible modification. Wonder which one will be first, Microsoft releasing modding tools/info or Assembly :)

Will give resorep a shot for now and see if it will work w/ MCC. edit: nope resorep doesn't hook properly for in-game textures, only pulls the UE4 UI elements, best you can do is mod your crosshair or certain hud elements. Tried 3Dmigoto also but it isn't able to intercept textures, only modify/override default MCC shaders (i.e. looks like you can modify how skyboxes/hud/smoke/lighting/etc are renderer) so can't go that route either for texture improvements.

Official quote from Splash Damage:

Quote

While 343 have stated their wish to support modding, that support isn't going to be there for launch. At this time, while we do allow discussions around what types of modding support players would like to see and what types of mods they might like to see, any support, requests for help or discussion around actual modding, how to mod, looking for help to mod is currently off limits for discussion at this time

Guess I'll wait a year or two haha

I'm getting "tools for v140 toolset cannot be found." It says to select "update VC++ projects" from the build menu, but the option doesn't exist. No retargeting option comes up when I open the project either.

Also getting a "this version of visual studio only works with windows store apps" message. Starting to think this version (VS 2012 Express) I got off some random site (because MS removed their official download link) is the wrong version. Too bad my 2019 trial expired aged ago.

BTW I got really used to eldewrito's tags all being stored in a central tag.dat file so you didn't have to make the same tag edits over and over on every map. Does Reach do this by any chance?

You no longer need to compile. It is available at https://www.nexusmods.com/halothemasterchiefcollection/mods/1
