if you look at the thumbnail it looks like the cannon is attached to the grenade launcher and looks like a long barrel sniper/rifle of some kind thats just what i saw though. lol

Wow there's something about that I really like. I would have to say I guess Bungie didn't do that because showing an Elite about to stab a Sparten, probably didn't go so well for the title ;).

Wasn't that painting used in the beta build? It's a lot more dramatic than the release painting. Although Halo has never really had a dramatic background on the main menu.

is that running an animation from the campaign? with a effe added for the proj?

Thanks, The longsword and the bombs it drops are both projectiles spawned from effects. To prevent the longsword from spawning at bad angles when the flare is thrown onto an inclined surfaces, the flare spawns an invisible biped with climb any surface enabled and no coll, and the longsword spawns from the biped. This allows it to maintain proper orientation (because bipeds are constrained to the z axis when alive). Then the effect kills the biped, but it's not noticeable because it only takes .1 damage.

Hacky? Yes. but it works lol

Nah bro, the Elite was used in the beta but the background is totally different.
